My mom, Lela Gutierrez, opened a small Mexican restaurant in Russell, Kansas, 40 years ago – long before Mexican cuisine was popular and fast food restaurants urged customers to think outside the bun. Her restaurant drew visitors from throughout Central Kansas and beyond because of her loving hospitality and delicious, fresh foods. My seven brothers and sisters and I helped Mom prepare and serve her trademark entrees, building a long-lasting family tradition and establishing Gutierrez as one of the region’s most enduring dining establishments.
Today, I proudly carry on her love for flavorful, fresh food and quality customer service at Gutierrez Mexican Restaurant in Salina. Enjoy attentive service in our beautifully decorated dining room, reminiscent of a lively, old world hacienda, artfully decorated and beaming in rich colors and textures. Choose from our unique selection of authentic and imaginative Mexican entrees; filling, flavorful vegetarian dishes; and premium Angus steaks. Gutierrez also offers a full bar, large private dining room, and catering services.
My Mom passed away in 2005, but her spirit lives on in the traditions and recipes she left behind.
